He is a community advocate, and he agrees with the City of Monterey General Plan that focuses on "preserving and enhancing Monterey's aesthetic environment."
Jeff
has been very active with civic groups and activities such as the
Monterey Peninsula Sunrise Rotary Club,
the State Theatre Preservation Group Board of Directors,
Christmas in the Adobes,
and the annual "First Night Monterey" New Year's Eve Celebration.
Jeff is an outstanding leader who has a strong
background in neighborhood issues, finance, and environmental issues. He
understands that good leadership in the City of Monterey requires a
careful balance between many competing interests.
Issues &
Accomplishments:
Fiscal Responsibility. Jeff led the
effort to downsize the new $16 million city government center by
persuading the City Council to reduce the scale of the project thereby
saving taxpayers over $3 million.
Community Awareness. Jeff
successfully called for using $150,000 in "windfall" revenue to maintain
library hours and the bookmobile.
Schools. Jeff understands that our
school district has been in a crisis mode for too long and will act
quickly to restore our school system.
Environment. Jeff will continue to
focus on preserving our environment, while carefully balancing the
concerns of homeowners and local businesses.
Traffic. Jeff mobilized
neighborhood support to successfully reduce traffic on Franklin Street
to limit late night and early morning noise.
Neighborhoods. Jeff sees Monterey
as a "community of neighborhoods" and will work to ensure that our
quality of life is not threatened by traffic and uncontrolled growth.
Public Safety. Jeff has a strong
record of working to keep Monterey safe, and he understands that safety
must continue to be our number one priority.
Water. Jeff is committed to helping
to identify a viable solution to our long-term water needs without
promoting unsustainable growth.
Local Economy. Jeff understands
that our economy depends on tourism, the military community, education,
the fishing industry, and strong local businesses. He will continue his
tradition of promoting our best economic interests.
Art & History. Jeff realizes
the significance of the cultural arts to our community. In addition,
he and his wife live in the historic "Finch House" in Old Town, so
he understands firsthand the importance of historic preservation in
Monterey.
